Cunit is located in the Bajo Panadés region, in the province of Tarragona.
The landscape is typically Mediterranean: The 2.5 km of fine sandy beach is protected by the breakwaters, that give this place its characteristic semi-circular shape. From the agricultural plains (called Prats de Cunit and Plana del Castell) to the mountain ranges in the center (Sierra de Sant Antoni) and in the north of the municipality, belonging to the last mountain range along the Catalan coast. The highest mountains are found in the northern mountain ranges.
Some finds in the Cave of Avenc de Sant Antoni prove that there was human life in this area already in prehistoric times. They date back to 3700 BC.
The most important document that records the founding of the municipality of Cunit is a municipal charter from 1275 that King Jaume I granted to the castle and the town of Cubelles.
Cunit Castle has lost its charm and original shape. It was restored in the 20th century and changed its entire appearance. Ramon Berenguer IV donated this castle to Dalmau de Cunit in the 11th century.
As for the natural environment, Cunit has its roots in the Sierra de Puig de Tiula, green spaces and dense forests enjoyed by all visitors.
