Lage:

Petra is a small country town and administrative centre of the municipality of the same name on the Balearic island of Mallorca. The right-angled streets are lined with old houses made of golden brown quarry stone (Marès). Petra is a beautiful country town, away from the hustle and bustle. Known as a grape growing area and well-known for very good wine.

The town is about 44 kilometres from Palma on the main MA-3320 from Manacor towards Inca in the Pla countryside.

The Arabs, who founded the small town in the interior of the island, called it “The Radiant”. In the Moorish era, Petra belonged to the Juz or Yiynaw-Bitra district. This district fell to King Jacob I after the Catalan conquest

In the municipal area there are around 40 archaeological sites from different historical periods. During excavations, remarkable finds such as amphorae, various ceramic objects and burial urns were found from Roman times.
